Can I increase the space between the handrail and the wall?

The standard spacing between Promenaid handrail and the wall is 1-1/2″. You may wish to increase this space in some cases, for example:

  • Where local codes require 2″ spacing
  • Where the wall surface is very rough
  • Where the wall is not even

Spacers are available to extend both types of Promenaid L-bracket:

Pivoting Bracket – Use one or more Wall Adapters between the bracket and the wall

Sprocketlock Bracket – Use one or more 1/2″ Spacers between the bracket and the wall

Both types of spacers increase the wall spacing by 1/2″, and can be stacked to further increase that spacing in 1/2″ increments.

A maximum of four spacers totaling 2″ (3-1/2″ spacing overall) are recommended.

If you need to overcome a ‘joggle’ in the wall that is greater than 2″, we recommend creating an S-bend in the handrail rather than spacing out the brackets. Please contact us for further details.
